The Church Van From The Auction

Dustin casually says from behind his computer, “Hey babe, you know how we are having so much fun as a FAMILY with this van project, what about we buy another one?”

Now let me fill you in on something, my weakness in life is family so anytime Dustin wants to spend money on something he thinks I might say no to, he plays my “family” heartstring!

You might be thinking why would I say no, this van stuff was my idea to start with?  And you are correct, I would absolutely say yes to a newer, running, in amazing shape van, and probably no to another fixer-upper, as we were just burned on our first one.

He continued, “well, I found this van at an auction down south and it says it ran when they got it!”

My response, “IT RAN WHEN THEY GOT IT, what the heck does that tell us, sounds to me like a pretty big gamble?”

And because he framed this all so well with his FAMILY project card, I just went along with it.

So, with absolutely no idea what we were getting, site unseen, we purchased over an online auction, a 2002 Dodge Ram Conversion Van for $1,700. All we could do now was hope it was running and in shape, goodness the things I say yes to!

For those of you who know us, and those of you getting to know us, we are absolutely the family who believes we will attract into our lives what we think about and give our energy to. With that being said we decided to head two hours from home to pick up the van without a trailer or anything else because we were going to manifest a sound running van, ready to convert and hit the road!

We arrived at the facility 20min before closing. We parked and quickly ran into the office. The lady working at the front desk asked Dustin, “how are you transporting this vehicle?”

Dustin laughed under his breath and said, “well, we planned on driving it home.”

She said with concern, “it says on my computer that it’s not running, and we close in 15min if you need help loading it on a trailer with the forklift just let me know ASAP.”

She then handed over the keys and at that moment we knew we were going to be fine, the keys were labeled “church van” this was a good sign, or at least that is how we choose to see it.

We anxiously waited in the parking lot as darkness was creeping up on us when around the corner we saw our “church van” bouncing out on a forklift loader.

We all looked at each other and started laughing hysterically.

I said to Dustin, “okay Dad go get that thing running in 5min and I’ll follow you home!”

Believe it or not, in just over 15min Dustin had the van running and we were on our way back home.

Let conversion #2 began!
